Serious Sam 3: BFE

Serious Sam 3: BFE, developed by Croteam and published by Devolver Digital, is a first-person action shooter released on 22 November 2011. It is a prequel to Serious Sam: The First Encounter and is set during Earth's final struggle against the invading legions of Mental, a conflict that unfolds across near-future Egypt.

Gameplay

The game is built around fast, arcade-style combat with no cover system. Players hold down the trigger against a continuous onslaught of attackers, and the emphasis falls on movement and firepower rather than tactical positioning. Sam can carry his entire arsenal at once and switch between weapons on the fly, including a scoped assault rifle, a double-barreled shotgun, an explosive automatic shotgun, a minigun, and a launcher that fires flaming cannonballs. Melee attacks provide a close-range alternative, such as ripping out the eye of a Gnaar or snapping the neck of an Arachnoid Hatchling for an instant kill.

Enemies and Environments

• Creatures: The enemy roster includes the Scrapjack, Khnum, Headless Kamikaze, Gnaar, Sirian Werebull, and Arachnoid Hatchling.
• Environments: Battles take place across expansive battlefields where shattered modern cities stand alongside ancient temples, and much of the surroundings can be destroyed.

Multiplayer and Features

Serious Sam 3: BFE supports online and split-screen co-operative play, along with online and split-screen player-versus-player modes. The game also includes a level editor, Steam Workshop support, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, and Remote Play.

The game is available in nine languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Bulgarian.

Reception

Serious Sam 3: BFE has a Metacritic score of 72. English-language user reviews on Steam are 86% positive across 5,930 reviews. 1UP gave the game an A-, while Inside Gaming Daily/Machinima and Dealspwn each awarded it 9/10.
